Kalaripayattu is the world's most ancient comprehensive martial arts originated in southern state of India, Kerala. The origin of the martial arts is believed to be from ancient indian yogis who attained enlightenment, thus apart from being merely a dry martial arts it is developed under Indian philosophy to attain enlightenment and it's health sciences.

Shaolin Kungfu, taught by South Indian monk Bhodhidharma had also had the same intention when introducing a martial arts to zen monks of shaolin.

Kalaripayattu, as it was developed by yogis and Rishis, direct techniques behind each move is revealed only after 12 years of kalaripayattu training, and fortunately or unfortunately the tradition is followed by Gurus still today.
That may be the reason why kalaripayattu has criticism from those who just merely watch YouTube videos and judge this art as not having much techniques.
