About Tezos

A true digital commonwealth, Tezos is empowering a myriad of passionate people spanning a range of disciplines and backgrounds. Tezos is rapidly evolving and growing - its future continues to be written by the collaborative action and participation of its users. Tezos is an open-source decentralized platform, blockchain and ecosystem for assets, applications and services. This platform is backed by a global community of participants such as validators, researchers, developers and builders - all committed to engaging and growing the ecosystem. Participants in the Tezos ecosystem are able to propose protocol feature upgrades - through its on-chain governance process, participants actively securing the network are then able to vote for or against the proposal and determine the outcome. With this on-chain governance process, Tezos has been able to achieve a fast pace of evolution and adopting new features at a much faster pace than the rest of the industry. To date, it has undergone 5 upgrades to the protocol, with a 6th upgrade currently under exploration. Unlike Proof-of-Work networks (Bitcoin, Ethereum), which have come under scrutiny due to their high energy requirements, the Tezos blockchain uses a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm which is significantly more energy efficient. This PoS approach provides several advantages besides it’s obvious energy and eco-friendly benefits; among them, it enables users to secure the network without high computational hardware requirements (oftentimes required by PoW). Therefore, PoS effectively lowers the barrier of entry for individual network participation around the globe. Tezos is rapidly evolving and growing - its future continues to be written by the collaborative action and participation of its users. A true digital commonwealth, Tezos is empowering a myriad of passionate people spanning a range of disciplines and backgrounds. Learn more about Tezos at www.tezos.com.
