When I was informed I was leaving the country of pain for a new life, I breathed a sigh of relief; I was excited and thought, wow, finally, a way of escaping being sexually abused had arrived. How wrong she was! To save my life, I fled her abusive marriage in Trinidad with just £100 and a suitcase and came to the UK in 1997 determined to be a voice for women in similar situations who have yet to find their strength. I advocate ending violence against women, and her mission is to help 100 million women worldwide find their strength and take their power back.
