Kashmir Bonner is the Founder of Cease Poverty, a nonprofit organization committed to break the cycle of poverty and incarceration by empowering justice-impacted women to discover their purpose, and rebuild their lives. Her work is deeply rooted in lived experience. After overcoming a challenging upbringing that lead her to serve 11 years of incarceration at the age of 21 , Kashmir emerged with a renewed purpose—to become the solution for young women facing the same barriers she once did. Today, she uses her story as a bridge to create real opportunities for others. At Cease Poverty we’re building a community-based organization in Chicago focused on supporting justice-impacted women ages 18 to 24. Our work centers around transitional housing, workforce development, empowerment services, and mobile outreach. Right now, we’re in our development phase and actively seeking partners and funding to launch our programs and open our first transitional housing and resource center. In addition to her nonprofit leadership, Kashmir is the Founder of First Hundred Thousand LLC, where she specializes in business formation, business credit development, and entrepreneurial education. Through FHT University, she equips individuals with the knowledge and tools to launch, structure, and scale their own businesses—turning education into economic empowerment.
