'What does a hippopotamus eat, dad?' asks Jordan. 'Children who ask for stuff that they see on tv,' says his dad. Being a dad is brilliant. /// Eternal tourist | Confused corporate peon | Cat herder | Aspiring hippo | Flowery shirter | Know it all | Wannabe comedian | Treehugger | Epicurean | Ambivert /// The way forward I think is to find out who you are. Believe that you are the main character and top billing actor in your own movie. In most movies that character eventually finds home. Which I think is allegorical - they eventually find a truth about themselves. They find peace and look the man Patience dead in the eye. /// Connect here linkedin.com/in/eyadhasbullah Book time here eyadhasbullah.com I'm on Spotify courtesy of Sudeep https://open.spotify.com/episode/7mZOzJZbxoXjfCxf3trgdX Embarrassing music I made if you fancy a chuckle https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandID=54148 /// There are three phases to a career: first is to serve & learn; second is to sustain & spend little; and third to grow & spend even less. For the first phase, choosing something you "love" or pays well are the wrong areas to focus. Instead, choose to be of service & where you think you will learn the most from a good mentor, colleagues, company, or industry. So choose life: and life is about learning. Love learning. It is good enough. Nurture a growth mindset. Understand how to develop gratitude & being content. They say, "love what you do". I say if you love you, what you do is moot. At the middle part, after 35% of your working life, sustain the upwards trajectory you're on and avoid making too many changes. Be smart with your money. In the final part, as an experienced person with resources and a network: grow & scale all the heights you can; and spend even less money. Retire from work, don't work until you retire. The aim is to stop work and have a life to live if you're lucky enough. Some can't enjoy retirement because they never lived long enough or didn't plan their finances. Inspired by Yusuf Hashim: https://lnkd.in/gg6Gha9h P.S. Don't listen to advice from mid-career professionals. Seek those who have seen everything & done most. /// There's a special version & free Malaysiakini for the visually impaired. If there's anyone who needs it, contact [email protected] or 03 7770 0017.
