Where the local Dukaan (shop) was owned by a family we all knew. Every adult was allowed to discipline us. We played outside all day in every season. A place where the dirt ground was perfect for dhudhuumishow (hide&seek), Koobey bilataa (no translation), , bano (marbles), rolling tyres, making wire, tin or box replica cars, foot races, tree climbing e.g (humor&dheen) or bikes if you could afford it, shooting birds with waraf (catapults), dabal (swimming in Bohol salaamey ,Ceel uri , lamaadi mukey and the beautiful natural waterfalls of Gerboody), playing one touch, skipping rope or searching for wild fruits like :(Marer,Hoobishi Qaraab,Hingshili haawey kakaney, Oloondi habki ) ,.........the list goes on. Where fights consisted of fists, sticks and the almighty stones surrounded in the City. Shoes were a privilege and sandals was the in-thing. We ate whatever was cooked without question or indication of disgust and nobody knew about allergies. We weren't afraid of anything but adults finding out the wrong you did. Getting dark was curfew. Whole chickens cut up and ever part was consumed(even the legs) & Baris was as important as air. Eid was for everyone. We ate at our neighbours even exchanged foods if you didn't like what was being cooked at your home. We stayed late at the neighbours too. We walked to school together, Life was simple and beautiful. Oh, and if you disrespected your elders or looked in their eyes while they were talking to grown folks you would feel their wrath with whatever was close by. Thursdays and Fridays were days exclusive geared for developing social skills such as swimming in Bohol salaamey ,Ceel uri , lamaadi mukey and Gerboody and playing football in Isbartiimithy, Dagaandegi, Shimiteeri and Salaheyti in addition, we struggled to get boqol shilling (100sh) for movie at Dameeri or shaleemada shantaraal around Afar-irdoodky..... ๐ฏ #Good-Old-days! I so wish we could
